The Hon Speaker of the House of Assembly, Joseph Isaac has called out the Hon Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton for what can be described as non-performance of duty.
Hon Linton has been given another term to serve as Chair of the Public Accounts Committee for the House of Parliament.
That committee is responsible for overseeing government expenditures and ensuring they are effective and honest.
Hon Linton, in delivering his response to the National Budget presented on Tuesday, spoke repeatedly of mismanagement of State funds.
Hon Linton told the House that large sums of public funds are unaccounted for going back years.
Hon House Speaker, Joseph Isaac addressed Hon Linton, “You are the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee for many years. You have a role and a responsibility as the Chairman of Public Accounts Committee over those years. You cannot now come into this Honorable House in 2020/2021 alleging that something is missing.
“You have not done anything or taken any action in regards to your role and responsibility as the Chairman of Public Accounts Committee so that the honorable House could make a decision.”
Hon Linton was forced to withdraw several statements said to be imputing improper motives- a contravention of the standing orders of the House of Assembly.
