One hundred and fifty families of the Roseau Valley constituency will find shelter in apartments of their own when five new housing projects get off the ground in their communities.
“We visited all the sites in the Roseau Valley where we are going to have apartments built by MMC. We have identified the sites in Morne Prosper, Wotten Waven, Trafalgar, Laudat and even Cochrane,” reported Hon Roseau Valley MP, Dr Irving McIntyre who explained that Montreal Management Construction Limited (MMCE) will undertake the projects.
A resource centre in Trafalgar is expected to be finished in August. It is also designed to be hurricane-resilient and therefore useful as an emergency shelter.
Meantime, 21 homes were said to be 90% complete in Cochrane and Trafalgar.
“I took a look at the them and they look pretty good,” He continued. “They are all hurricane-resistant housing,” Dr McIntyre said of the Cochrane homes.
“Lily Valley in Trafalgar, where we have 12 units being built should be over within the next 2-3 months,” Hon McIntyre detailed. “Nine of these are two bedroom and three of these are three-bedroom apartments.”
He added, “They are all climate resilient, they are 90% done. All that’s left is some tiling to be done and to redirect the road.”
Those 21 homes are being constructed with pre-cast concrete from Preconco Ltd.
