The Ministry of National Security and Home Affairs says it will crack down on the practice of illegal border breaches and could move to rounding up undocumented Haitians.
In a press conference Monday morning, Police Chief Daniel Carbon said the number of Haitians entering and exiting the island at unauthorized points of entry is concerning.
The issue of illegal entry and exit is said to be a challenge for police for close to 40 years.
Hon Minister for National Security and Home Affairs, Rayburn Blackmoore says the Haitians originating from Dominica are being intercepted in other islands.
This means his ministry will make drastic moves to curb the habit.
He says some freedoms have been extended to Haitian nationals since both states are signatories to the CARICOM agreement.
The police chief has said that Dominica’s sovereignty, however, is paramount.
