Government is discussing establishing an isolation centre for the island for the long term.

Dominica’s Hon Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit made the revelation on Sunday when he was discussing quarantine conditions at the St James Centre in Portsmouth.

The St. James Centre, now known as the COVID centre was refitted as a medical quarantine facility which has been described by medical practitioners are satisfactory for the purpose.

Hon Roosevelt Skerrit says his Government believes the island would benefit from such a facility erected specifically for this purpose.

“We have hurricanes and there are health issues from time to time,” he said. “You will have some infectious diseases come into the country.

“The plan is that we’re going to be building a permanent isolation centre that will be outfitted with all the necessary medical equipment for any eventuality so that we don’t have to find ourselves having to do things over and over again. That’s something that we’re looking at down the road.”

He says the matter was discussed on Saturday.
