The Hon Minister for Foreign Affairs is describing a shooting incident which left a Chinese national dead in Portsmouth as unfortunate but isolated.
Forty-nine-year-old Zing Jian Yong, a male Chinese national residing at Picard was fatally shot at about 11:15 pm on Tuesday in an attempted robbery gone wrong.
According to police, Yong was transported to the Reginald Fitzroy Armor hospital where he was medically examined and officially pronounced dead. his body is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Hon Dr Kenneth Darroux released a statement to the media on Thursday.
He revealed that there was a meeting between the Chinese Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to extend sympathy on behalf of Dominica’s government and people.
“The Government of the people of Dominica acknowledges the Government of the People’s Republic of China and all its citizens as true friends and clearly what transpires must be seen as an unfortunate but isolated incident,” he said.
“I would like to reassure all Chinese nationals who have settled into our local communities that Dominica remains the safest place in the world to live and work and we will continue to be each other’s keeper.”
