The Dominica Police Force has made public the route for this year’s opening of Carnival Parade.
Carnival 2020 will officially open this Saturday 18th January 2020 with the traditional parade.
Speaking at a Dominica Festivals Committee press conference today, Assistant Chief of Police, Richmond Valentine announced that the parade will begin from Victoria Street along the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard.
“They will move north unto the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard and then East on King George V Street, north on Great George Street, east along the River Bank, south on Independence Street and then east on Kennedy Avenue and then into the Windsor Park Sports Stadium,” Officer Valentine said.
He further disclosed that temporary arrangements have been made to facilitate traffic flow on Saturday.
“From the junction of Bath Road and Victoria Street to the roundabout at Fort Young Hotel, we will ensure that that portion of road is available for the parade groups to assemble. However, from the junction of Bath Road and Victoria Street to the intersection of High Street and DBS, vehicles will only park on the western side.
“From the junction of High Street to the roundabout, you are able to utilize both east and west sides. The necessary traffic arrangements will be in place to facilitate that process.”
The parade is expected to begin 3:00 p.m. and end at 6:00 p.m followed by the official ceremony at the Windsor Park Stadium Forecourt.
Events Manager of DFC, Marva Williams informed that all vehicles and groups who are part of the opening parade should enter through the third entrance gate on River Street, near the riverbank.
