A container storing mattresses, wheelchairs, kitchen supplies, clothing and miscellaneous items belonging to the Grotto Home caught fire on Thursday morning.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Dominica Fire and Ambulance Service, Wayne Letang informed Dominica Vibes that the fire department received the report shortly before 9:00 a.m and rushed to the scene where the fire fighters “worked feverishly to try to contain the fire.”
Unfortunately, the entire stock was lost by the time the fire was put out. The cause is as yet unknown.
Reports are that a person of unsound mind may have been involved.
Meantime, President of the Grotto Home, Ainsworth Irish conveyed that he is grateful that nobody was injured, as one or two persons still lived at the old Grotto Home, near the container on High Street.
