Dominica Freedom Party political leader, Kent Vital

One of the five political parties registered Dominica, the Dominica Freedom Party has announced that it will not be contesting the general elections next month.

Freedom Party Leader, Kent Vital, made the declaration at a press conference on Thursday, November 14th.

He says the party defers to the United Workers Party which they believe is better-positioned to lead.

“We recognise the need to press that reset button. We need that change, and the United Workers Party, given their readiness, they are in a position to take our country to the first step,” Vital said.

He added, “The Freedom Party will be there next election but that first step is very important, and the party has decided to put the nation’s interest before our own political interest.”

The Freedom Party Leader was also asked whether the Freedom Party would be joining the United Workers Party on their political platform.

“We will be using our independent platform to continue to educate people, and to encourage them to make the right decision to vote this government out,” he responded.

In July 2018, the party had unveiled five candidates and said it planned to contest all 21 seats.
