The Government of Dominica has accorded the late James Clayton Royer Jr., an official funeral on Friday, October 4, 2019. The Government has declared Friday, October 4, 2019 an official day of mourning as a mark of respect for the former Parliamentary Representative for the Salisbury Constituency.
The Dominican flag shall be flown at half-staff on all public buildings in the state on the day of mourning, Friday, October 4, 2019.
James Clayton Royer Jr. served as Parliamentary Representative For The Salisbury Constituency from August 1985 to April 1990 as a member of the Dominica Freedom Party Government of Dame Mary Eugenia Charles.
Mr. Royer was born in Roseau on July 7, 1928 and later educated at the St. Mary’s Academy. He went to the Algonquin College in Canada graduating as a certified accountant. Before going on to pursue studies, he was a teacher at the Salisbury Government School for a short period and was also employed at Geest Industries in Dominica and St. Lucia.
Upon his return to Dominica from studies Mr. Royer was appointed accountant at the Dominica Agriculture Marketing Board, to be later elevated to the position of general manager.
Mr. Royer was an active member of the credit union movement on island being a founding member of the Dominica Credit Union Society and a member of the Dominica Credit Union League,
The late James Clayton Royer died on September 21, 2019 at the age of 91. He is predeceased by his wife, Geraldine and was the father of eight children.
His Excellency The President, Charles Savarin and Mrs. Savarin; Hon. Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit; Hon Speaker of the House Of Assembly, Alix Boyd-Knights, other members of Parliament; Government officials and members of the diplomatic corps are expected to attended the official funeral for the late James Clayton Royer Jr.
The funeral will be held at the St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Salisbury from 3:00pm. Viewing of the body will take place from 2:30pm.
The late James Clayton Royer Jr. Will be laid to rest at the St. Theresa Roman Catholic Cemetery.
