Dominica Business Forum Demands Answers about Maria Anniversary Holiday

The Dominica Business Forum says it considers “insensitive and oblivious” Government’s decision to declare Thursday, September 19th a public holiday.

In a statement released to the press, the Business Forum gripes that the declaration without consultation with the private sector shows disregard for the challenge of paying wages for unproductive hours.

One year ago, Dominica Vibes reported that registered businesses in the productive and distributive sectors will be special concessions as outlined in the 2018/2019 National Budget. Those concessions targeted businesses undertaking repairs, renovation and rebuilding following Hurricane Maria.

The concession granted was a waiver of import duties on a selected list of building/construction materials for a period of one year.
