General Manager of Dominica Water and Sewerage Company limited (DOWASCO) Bernard Ettinoffe says DOWASCO has embarked on a $5.5m project for the development of the water system for the Soufriere area.
At present DOWASCO is constructing a 250,000 gallon water storage tank to relieve the water challenges in the area.
Ettinoffe says the current system there is inadequate to support the needs of residents therefore an alternative system has become necessary. Gravity will feed a pump mechanism to bring water to local consumers including the newly opened Jungle Bay Hotel.
Currently, the Pichelin intake is serving the area.
The Manager says, “We have no choice really. The available source in the Soufriere area is inadequate to meet the needs of the growing community and the developments which are taking place. That project is well on its way. The pipe [laying] is nearing completion and the tank should be installed soon.”
