In recognition of the significance of the 2019/2020 National Budget towards the economic and social development of the Commonwealth of Dominica, the Dominica Business Forum (DBF) Inc. has extended invitations to the Government of Dominica and to the parliamentary opposition, to separate dialogues, with the private sector, on Wednesday 10th July, 2019 and Thursday 11th July, 2019, respectively.

President of DBF Severin McKenzie informed DA Vibes  that the proposed dialogue with the Government of Dominica is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday 10th July, 2019, but final confirmation from the Government is still pending.

“So we thought it was good for the private sector to meet with the Government and the Opposition but in separate meetings. So the meeting with the Government is scheduled for tomorrow morning [July 10th] at Fort Young Hotel at 9 o’clock. We have not received a confirmation so we are still waiting. If by the end of the day [today] we have not received confirmation from the Government to participate, we will cancel but the meeting with Opposition is still on at 4:30  p.m on Thursday afternoon  and we are hoping that as many private sector operators and representatives will come in and have lively discussion as to the way forward for the private sector in Dominica,” he said.

McKenzie further relayed that “the discussion seeks to reveal the plans of the policy makers who are head of the Government for the private sector.”

“We are entering 2020 next year, that’s the first decade of the 21st century so its important that the Private Sector knows what is the intention for private sector development,” he noted.

The Dominica Business Forum (DBF) Inc. recognizes the lateness of this intervention but is convinced that such dialogues will be more appropriate if held immediately prior to the national budget presentation because, at that eleventh hour, accommodations have a habit of being critically sought the DBF press release said.
