Despite having several offers on the table, Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit has said that his Government will not put pen to paper on any arrangement for an international airport until he is fully satisfied that he has gotten the best possible deal for Dominica.
Speaking during the launch of Wesley DLP Candidate Fidel Grant, Skerrit informed his supporters that in excess of five bids have been made from various countries around the world.
“I will not shout out names from the public platform this evening, but I can share with you at least five solid proposals that I have in my armour for the design, finance, construction and operation of an international airport for Dominica,” he shared.
Further adding “I have firm solid proposal from a firm in China, from India, from Dubai and from two multilateral agencies and from independent developers in Europe and the Americas. We have been in negotiations with them because we need to ensure that which we enter into today can be maintained by us tomorrow and the next week.”
According the Minister of Finance, “I have spoken to countries in similar situations in the region and beyond and they tell me what I already know, an international airport is nothing to be rushed.”
He also revealed that the airport will be located in the Wesley constituency, therefore enabling his Government to commence negotiations for the acquisitions of lands, joining those which are already in the possession of the state.
