Following the success of Mama Creole on Mother’s Day in honor of Dominica’s Lady of song, Ophelia Marie, organiser Leroy Wadix Charles has officially launched Papa Creole which is scheduled for this Father’s Day.

At the media press conference on Wednesday 29th May 2019, Charles, conveyed that the show is an opportunity to display about two hundred years of Dominica’s creole music.

“Two hundred years of Dominican music will be for the first time, on one stage and I’m happy, Historian, Gregory Rabess is in our midst. For years he has documented what has transpired within our musical circle. It’s a very expensive project but we found it important because here are a few gentlemen who have revolutionized creole music once and for all,” Charles said.

The show will feature the likes of Gordon Henderson and Exile one; Midnight Groovers; Halibut and the original WCK.

Meanwhile, former events coordinator of Dominica Festivals Committee, and Co-Promoter of the event, Val Cuffy expressed that  Papa Creole takes into consideration the lack of promotion for Dominica’s local music.

When asked about how different the show is from the World Creole Music Festival, Cuffy responded, “I have had the vision, together with Leeroy Wadico Charles from my days at the DFC to see a resurgence of creole culture. While I sat there [at DFC] I was not the one charged with the responsibility of making the decisions of what I think would have been the best in the interest of creole music and creole culture. Although I am no longer at the DFC and [now] employed as a private citizen, I think it’s my responsibility as a social champion for the hope of our culture to bring my friends, Carlton Esprit, Simeon Joseph, Flow and all the other sponsors so that we can really manifest the great work of Halibut, of Chubby, of Gordon, of our local culture,” Cuffy said.

Papa Creole is carded for Saturday 15th May 2019 from 9:00 p.m at the Windsor Park Stadium Forecourt.
