Twenty-eight families of the St. Joseph constituency are expected to be handed over new homes by the end of June 2019. This was announced by Prime Minister, Honorable Roosevelt Skerrit.
Mr. Skerrit says that the Government of Dominica plans to build a total of 100 homes in that constituency and further informed that construction of an additional 36 homes is set to begin soon.
“The plan here in Hilsborough Garden is to build 100 homes for the residents of St. Joseph and Layou. In the next couple months we will commence the construction of some 36 units but it will be utilizing apartment structures because we have an issue of land space and the individual homes do occupy large pieces of land.”
The Prime Minister also revealed that government intends to acquire land in St. Joseph from private citizens as the effort to upgrade housing in the community continues.
“The challenge we have in St. Joseph is that there are many homes but everybody has a small plot of land and you have a challenge of the sewage and building of the septic tanks to facilitate the disposal of wastes so you will never truly be able to do what you want to do in St. Joseph where housing is concerned.”
