Minister of Health and Social Services, Honorable Dr. Kenneth Darroux has confirmed plans for the restructuring of the management of the health care system as part of the health care transformation process.
Dr. Darroux made these comments while addressing a Ministry of Health Press Conference at the Princess Margaret Hospital Conference room on Friday 5th April 2019.
Darroux highlighted several plans for the new management structure. He said several reports have indicated that the present administrative structure does not allow “value for money”.
“You may have heard me from time to time mention the issue of a CEO and changing the administrative structure at the hospital… numerous reports and consultants have provided reports where we were not getting value for our money, per say, with the current administrative structure.”
He also conveyed that with the new administration implemented, enactment of new health legislation will be considered.
“This is the most complex part of the transformation because we know that health service providers are considered public servants, guided by laws, statutes etc, but with the advent of a health authority or a board, whatever the case may be, we now have to look to adjust, modify or enact new legislation to deal with this.”
Darroux described this transformation as “exciting ” and expressed his fulfillment of being able to witness such a modification.
“As the minister of health, outgoing, but still exciting to me, because I feel that when this manifests I will feel proud to have been proud of the early days [of initiating] this transformation. ”
