Dominica Water Sewage Company (Dowasco) celebrates World Water Day today under the theme “Leaving No One Behind”. This year, Dowasco collaborates with the Dominica Meteorological Service as World Meteorological Day is also celebrated today.
In an interview with DA Vibes, PRO of Dowasco, Edward Registe stated that the theme for this year’s Water Day serves its purpose. Almost 99% of villages in Dominica have been provided with portable water even after two recent natural disasters caused major damage to our water system.
“Today millions of people have little or no access to water and it is anticipated that the international water crisis could worsen as urbanization and industrialization place more demand on our fresh water resources.”
Registe said that as a result of climate change, it is expected that by the year 2030, water scarcity could displace millions of people world-wide.
In an effort to highlight World Water Day, an exhibition is carded to be held at the Windsor Park Stadium Forecourt as well as the Dowasco grounds in Portsmouth at 9:30 a.m.
