The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries’ validation exercise comes to an end.
Following the passage of Hurricane Maria in 2017, many people involved in the agricultural sector registered their losses with the Ministry of Agriculture.
The initial raw data collected had to be verified and processed by the Regional Extension Teams.
Immediately after the passage of Hurricane Maria the standard procedure of data collection began.
In the first quarter of 2018 the validation process began once claims of farm losses were recorded the Agricultural department would assign an extension officer to verify the losses on the listed farm.
Once the information has been verified by the extension officer. It is to be registered in a “Master Data Base”. The purpose of this data base is to identify who the farmers and the key areas the farmers are involved in. This would help the ministry determine what assistance farmers would need in regards to training program or in the event of an unfortunate natural disaster.
The validation exercise has been ongoing for a few months now and will come to an end tomorrow January 31, 2019.
