Ronald Charles sworn in as UWP Senator

Representative for the Roseau Valley Ronald Charles replaces former United Workers Party (UWP) Senator Dr. Thomson Fontaine.

Thomson Fontaine according to reports was ousted from the senate position because he was absent for three consecutive sittings of Parliament without the expressed authority of the Speaker of the House of Assembly Alix Boyd-Knights.

This was revealed by Prime Minister,Roosevelt Skerrit who spoke during the Year In Review on Tuesday 8th January, 2019.

Charles received his instrument of appointment on Friday, 11th January from His Excellency Charles Savarin and, was officially sworn in as senator at the House of Parliament on January 21st 2018.

Senator Ronald Charles expressed his gratitude on his appointment and outlined some of his plans as a senator.

“I think this appointment is a win for the constituency of the Roseau valley and I pledge to represent them with the dignity that such high office demands a key feature of my engagement will be a designated people’s day each  month at a venue in the Roseau valley where people can have open discussions matters of the community building also I will establish a free legal clinic aid for the less fortunate who are in need of legal representation.” Senator Charles declared.
