Antiguan female team rows across the Atlantic

Team Antigua Island Girls is currently representing Antigua and Barbuda in the Talisker Whisker Atlantic Campaign.

The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge is the premier event in ocean rowing.

“This is the third team from Antigua that have taken part in this Atlantic Rowing Challenge…The first team was in 2015 and this team was a group of older men.” Project Manager For the Team Antigua Island Girls, Mickell Brann stated.

The teams began from La Gomera which is one of Spain’s Canary Islands. It is located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa. The teams are rowing 3000 miles to their final destination at the English Harbor in Antigua.

The annual race began in early December with up to 30 teams participating from around the world.

The Antigua and Barbuda Team is the only female team taking part in the competition.

The team comprises of: Elvira Bell; Christal Clashing; Samara Emanuel; Kevinia Francis; and Junella King.

Team Antigua Island Girls is rowing for Cottage of Hope. It is a group home that offers short-and-long term residency to girls who are abused, neglected or orphaned.

In an interview with Vibes News, Project Manager For the Team Antigua Island Girls, Mickell Brann said Team Antigua Island Girls aims is to inspire girls everywhere, but especially those in Antigua.

“They are doing what they need to do. They are committed and determined women.” Mickell Brann declared.
