Research has shown that cancer is expected to rise in the world, that’s according to President of the Dominica Cancer Society Yvonne Alexander.

Miss Alexander made this remark at the Dominica Cancer Society 2018 annual general meeting held over the weekend at the UWI Auditorium.

The Dominica Cancer Society was officially formed in 1991 and became dormant for a few years, then the first Annual general Meeting (AGM) was held in 2008.

The Dominica Cancer Society’s is a non-profit organization. Its mission is to seek to mobilize resources, educate, empower and provide support to individuals, families and communities. It promotes prevention and management of cancers using various strategies and provides support for cancer patients and their families. The Society focuses on raising funds to assist cancer patients to access treatment in Dominica and also other countries for treatment not available in Dominica.

“It is important to note that the Dominica Cancer Society will continue to become more relevant in the years ahead, based on relevant information received from cancer related bodies and organizations,” Miss Alexander noted.

Miss Alexander said the World Health Organization has indicated that cancer and cancer related illnesses is expected to rise exponentially in the years ahead.
