Dominica has joined rest of the world last Saturday, December 1st in observing International World AIDS Day. The theme was ‘Know Your Status.’
This year, the National HIV and AIDS Response Programme, (NHARP) of the Ministry of Health and Social Services is embarking on a prevention drive in relation to HIV/AIDS and other STIs.
The Unit will be carrying out testing across the island from November 28th – December 13th, 2018 at the various health centers in the districts.
National Coordinator of the HIV and AIDS Response Programme, Lester Guye noted that the main issues NHARP faces is the stigma which prevents persons from seeking treatment.
“In Dominica the key objective of the NHARP is to eliminate stigma and discrimination,” he said. He also mentioned how persons are afraid to enroll in care as they fear victimized if seen at a health Center or clinic.
Mr. Guye added that the main objective of the NHARP is to erase the stigma in an effort to become the leading nation in the Caribbean in HIV testing.
