National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang says the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) is “doing everything” to determine what caused a trainee pilot to crash land a helicopter in the south east of the country yesterday morning.

Civil Military Cooperation and Media Affairs Officer for the JDF, Major Basil Jarrett said the pilot, identified as Captain James, is in stable condition and undergoing medical evaluation at the University Hospital of the West Indies following the accident which occurred around 10:40 a.m., behind Phoenix Park Village housing scheme in Bernard Lodge, Greater Portmore, St Catherine.

The pilot was the sole occupant of the helicopter, a JDF Bell 206.

Major Jarrett said investigations and recovery procedures are being carried out, and he has urged residents of the area where the crash occurred to stay away from the site.

The public has also been asked to report aircraft parts found in the area to the JDF.
