Peace Ark marks new milestone for Dominica China Friendship  says Health Minister

Minister for Health and Social Services, Dr. Kenneth Darroux has described the arrival of the Chinese Navy Hospital Ship, Ark Peace as a new milestone in the bilateral bond between the two countries.

He made that statement while speaking at a welcome ceremony for the ship held on the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard on Friday, October 12th 2018.

Dr. Darroux stated that the relationship between the countries have yield tremendous assistance for Dominica in all areas.

He described the relationship between the two countries as ‘mutually respectful relationship over the years’, noting that it has yielded tremendous assistance in the form of technical cooperation for medical services, provision of medical equipment, road networks, schools, bridges, stadiums, the construction of a new national hospital and most importantly assisting us in building capacity and development of our human resource.

“Today however the arrival of the Peace Ark to our shores is yet another manifestation of this extraordinary friendship and takes the deep and strong relationship between the countries to a whole new level and marks a new milestone in the two countries bilateral bond,” Dr. Darroux stated.

According to Dr. Darroux, the “harmonious mission” will provide medical services to Dominicans as the island recovers from the effects of Hurricane Maria.

“Ladies and gentlemen, this harmonious mission 2018 will provide humanitarian medical services to our people in our time of need as we seek to rebuild our countries from the ravages of Hurricane Maria just over a year ago,” he noted.

Dr. Darroux went on to add that the mission “underscores the continued commitment of the People’s Republic of China to provide support to the Commonwealth of Dominica in area of health.”

The ship docked at the Roseau Cruise Ship Berth on the Dame Mary Eugenia Charles on Friday, October 12th, where a welcoming ceremony was held, before The President of Dominica, Charles Savarin and Mrs. Savarin and other Ministers of Cabinet were treated to a tour of the ship.
