The annual Walk for Cancer Care 2018 has been dubbed a success by the Public Relations Officer of the Dominica Cancer Society Vinna Royer.
The Walk for Cancer Care took place over the weekend with over one thousand people participating in the event.
In an interview with DaVibes Mrs. Royer said people came out to show solidarity for the Walk For Cancer Care.
“The Walk For Cancer Care 2018 was by all account a very great success. The walk was collaborated with the Ministry of Health and also partnered with the First Caribbean International Bank,” Mrs. Royer said.
Mrs. Royer said the Dominica Cancer Society aim is to advocate and educate the public on cancer. Mrs. Royer also encourages person to take more care of themselves.
She also noted that the men should be proactive and get screened for cancer.
“We are really hoping to get more men on board and create a men’s group in the Cancer Society in light of the rise in prostate cancer among the men in Dominica,” Mrs. Royer noted.
Mrs. Royer said the association is thankful of the recent announcement by the Prime Minister to make a donation to the Dominica Cancer Society.
“We understand a donation of $50,000 will be donated to the Dominica Cancer Society, we are very grateful to the government of Dominica and the donation will assist the association in cancer care,” Mrs. Royer added.
