The Pesticide Control Board of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries is preparing for the annual observance of Pesticide Awareness Week commencing September 24 2018. This year, the theme chosen by the Coordinating Groups of Pesticide Control Boards of the Caribbean is “Increase Food Safety, reduce dependency on Pesticide. Adopt Integrated Pest Management (IPM)”. The activities will run from September 24 – 28, 2018.
A series of activities are planned to mark this observance. These include:
RADIO PROGRAMMES – (News Release, Address by Minister of Agriculture, Espeweance Kweyol, Talking Point, The Heng)
TV News Release and Program (GIS & MARPIN 2K4)
SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAMME– Visits will be made to ten (10), five (5) primary and five (5) secondary schools sensitizing the students on Pesticide Management, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Food Safety.
1. To sensitize Customs, Plant Protection and Quarantine and Animal Health Officers on control and inspection of imported pesticides (custom and border control).
2. In house training session for Extension Officers of the Division of Agriculture on Pesticide Regulation (Registration, Importation and Usage).
