Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has asked all residents to remain calm as tropical storm Isaac is forecasted to make landfall or pass near Dominica on Wednesday or Thursday.

Mr. Skerrit who was speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday 11 September 2018 also called on persons to get information from official sources.

“Again let us remain calm, let us continue to pray and importantly let us get the information officially.”
He said he has seen a lot of WhatsApp messages going around which he said are not helpful to people’s emotional state.

“Some of them are scaring people, it’s misinformation, it’s inaccurate information and let us get the information from the ODM, the Met Office. I can tell you for my own personal good, I only take the information from the ODM and the Met Office and decisions are taken based on what they say to us.”

Mr. Skerrit said he has confidence in those authorized to issue these weather updates.

“On reading the meteorological report, they are the ones who read it themselves; they are the ones who report to the country on it. So while I understand that we are in this new era of technology and access to information that we are doing so in many cases not because of any malice or ill will we have to be mindful of what impact it can have especially when we try to interpret it…that can place great anxiety and cause people to go into a state of depression.”
