The United Workers Party has called on residents to take all necessary precaution ahead of tropical storm Isaac.

Tropical Storm Isaac is expected to pass near or over Dominica by Wednesday or Thursday.

“While the threat does not compare with the wind strength of Hurricane Maria, it is important that all our citizens exercise extreme care and caution as these winds can still cause serious damage,” said leader of the UWP Lennox Linton during a press conference on Tuesday 11 September 2018.

He urged all citizens to heed the warnings by the necessary authorities and encouraged those still living under tents or whose houses are still covered by tarpaulin or received structural damage from Hurricane Maria remaining unresolved to seek more reliable shelter.

“For our brothers and sisters living close to ravines and other water ways please move to more secure shelters since the storm may be accompanied by heavy rain.”

He also asked persons to ensure that they have the necessary supplies which they may need in the aftermath of the storm’s passage for at least three days in the event of the country sustaining damage and utilities interrupted, inclusive of canned foods, batteries and water.

“Be sure to look out for the elderly and others who may be in their homes and don’t have access to the hurricane shelters where these are available,” he added.

“We continue to pray for our country and to bid our fellow citizens safe and secure passage through the storm.”
