Citizens have been advised to listen to official weather reports in order to avoid misinformation and panic in the island.
Minister for the Environment, Climate Resilience, Disaster Management and Urban Renewal Joseph Isaac made this statement on Monday 10 September 2018 at a press briefing in preparation of Hurricane Isaac.
“As you aware by now Dominica is in the path of another tropical weather system namely Hurricane Isaac. The various organs of the National Emergency Planning Organization (NEPO) have been meeting to plan and guide the decision makers in preparation for the arrival of this hurricane. All are asked to continue to remain vigilant and to the progress of Hurricane Isaac,” Mr. Isaac said.
Mr. Isaac said weather monitoring and reporting must be done by trained professionals, the official and legal body that is responsible for providing up to date information on tropical cyclones like Isaac, is the Meteorological Office.
“Therefore I am calling on persons who are involved in the transmission of weather information that is not officially from the Meteorological office either on radio or social media to desist from this practice and allow the authorities that are designated to do so.”
He also advised citizens to take precautionary measures for the arrival of Hurricane Isaac.
