More housing assistance is coming to the Mahaut Constituency after 3.1 million dollars was approved.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit while speaking at a press ceremony there last week said he will make these funds available soon.
Two million dollars was made available earlier this year for phase one of the project under which over one hundred houses were reroofed and an additional one hundred and fifty persons received building materials to do their own repairs.
“The 3.1 million dollars which you will need in the next few weeks as Minister of Finance I will make this 3.1 million dollars available to the Mahaut constituency to continue its housing programme. Those funds will be made available in the month of September 2018.”
Mr. Skerrit said he was heartened to hear of the many persons who benefitted so far under the programme due to the government’s generosity.
“There is no obligation on the part of the government to do what we are doing. We do so because we empathize with our people, we do so because we love you as the citizens of Dominica and we do so because what we want for ourself we want it for your family and for your children and that’s what it’s about.”
He reiterated that the government is “committed” to making this 3.1 million dollars available to continue the housing programme.
