A revised Medical Professional Bill has been completed and could be included on the Order Paper for the next sitting of Parliament.
This was announced by Minister for Health and Social Services, Dr. Kenneth Darroux during the 2018/2019 Budget debate on Tuesday 31 July 2018.
He informed that the draft Medical Professional Bill has been finalized and is awaiting Cabinet’s approval.
“In fact as we speak the bill has been on Cabinet’s Agenda for a few weeks for reviewing, and we have been given the mandate to now circulate it among some other major stakeholders,” Dr. Darroux noted.
He is “optimistic that at the next sitting of Parliament, post this Budget debate, that the Medical Professional Bill will be debated at the next sitting of Parliament.”
Minister Darroux also stated that two bills; the Nursing and Pharmacy Bills, are also awaiting Cabinet’s revision.
In 2015, following public concern over the deaths of a number of persons who went to the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) seeking medical attention, Minister Darroux assured that a revised Medical Professions Act would hold healthcare professionals accountable for their actions.
