The villages of Atkinson and Antrizle have received about 1.2 million dollars for assisting persons with reroofing and reconstruction following hurricane Maria.
Chairman of the Atkinson/Antrizle Village Council, Paul Baron told Dominica Vibes on Friday 20 July 2018 that eighty to eighty-three persons in the twin communities will benefit from these funds.
He thanked Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, the government and all those who were involved in the process of acquiring the much needed funds.
“We were able, after Maria to conduct some level of assessment for our residents and we took to the streets to observe and note their needs.”
Baron explained that the council complied the information by formulating invoices from various dealers.
“I just want to state how appreciative I am of the village council, particularly Miss Gage and the clerk Mrs. Laville who went out of their way really to assist our residents.”
The chairman said it took some time, however they were patient as they realized that their need formed part of a greater need which included the entire island.
“Of course we are really excited to get this. Some of the residents have already begun utilizing those funds to the benefit of readying their homes, strengthening and fortifying their homes so that it can withstand the peril that is a hurricane.”
Meanwhile, Baron said benefiting residents have been cautioned to use the funds for its intended purposes which is for their housing needs.
“The Ministry of Housing will employ certain monitoring and evaluation aspects to ensure that the residents utilize it to their benefit.”
