The Ministry of Agriculture will embark on rebuilding the infrastructure it lost as a result of Hurricane Maria during the new financial year.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries had earlier reported that it suffered about seven hundred million dollars in losses.
“Crop and livestock, suffered about 480 million dollars, forestry about 149 million, fisheries 80 million dollars, a total loss of about 709 million dollars,” Dr. Reginald Thomas, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries reported while addressing the National Rebuilding and Economic Partnership in February 2018.
Dr. Thomas gave an update at the Ministry’s Data Collection and Agricultural Management Information System Workshop on Friday 8 June 2018.
There he said, “In the coming financial year, to support the reconstruction of the public infrastructure in the Ministry, we’ll be aggressively working towards rebuilding all the following ICT applications in the delivery of services from use of new buildings.”
In this regard five crop propagation centers to include Forestry, the centralized Stock Farm, regional offices and training centers will be rebuilt.
