The Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC) has made strides in regaining the trust of the Dominican public after numerous scandals damaged its reputation under the previous leadership.
That’s according to DOC’s President, Billy Doctrove who addressed a press conference to mark the executive’s first year in office at the Dominica Public Service Union building on Wednesday 6 June 2018.
Doctrove described the first year as “an interesting and great learning experience” as for many board directors, this was a first time experience.
“When we took office, on the evening of May 18th, 2017, never did I anticipate the level of difficulty that we would have been confronted with,” he said.
“It was obvious that the consensus among the populace was one of frustration, despondence, and mistrust as allegations of mismanagement and scandal followed in quick succession,” he stated.
Cognizant of the fact that the DOC’s reputation had “declined to an all-time low”, regaining the public’s trust became priority “for without the confidence of the Dominica people, we would be fighting a losing battle”.
“It was a long journey, and in fact it is still a work in progress, but based on the feedback of multiple persons to the executive members and myself, I can justifiably come to the conclusion that our efforts are bearing fruit and we are heading in the right direction,” Doctrove added.
