Drivers accessing the Macoucherie area are being advised to exercise caution as the by-pass road has suffered some damage.

Since the Macoucherie Bridge was washed away during the passage of Tropical Storm Erika in August 2015, the by-pass access has suffered many challenges.

A Bailey bridge was installed at Macoucherie after Tropical Storm Erika. However, heavy rainfall associated with a frontal boundary on Saturday 11 March 2017 resulted in the failure of the bridge.

That bridge was abandoned and a concrete bypass road built over the river.

On Tuesday 15 May 2018, a major crack appeared in the centre of that concrete road making drivers uneasy about traversing the area.

The Ministry of Public Works and Ports had announced on Friday 17 March 2017 that designs for a new Bailey bridge were being finalized.
