Just under one week ago Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Central Constituency Joseph Isaac announced his departure from the United Workers Party (UWP) to become an Independent Parliamentarian.
He vowed to his constituents that he would put their interest and that of the country first. During his address to the nation, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said he had discussions with Isaac and his delegation from the Roseau Central Constituency last week Thursday.
“Consequent upon our meeting last Thursday, and after consultation with senior members of the government and governing Dominica Labour Party, I subsequently contacted Mr. Isaac and extended to him an invitation to serve in the government of Dominica in the capacity as a minister of government. Hon. Isaac, after consulting with his key advisors, accepted that invitation,” he said.
Isaac therefore sits in the new Cabinet holding a very important portfolio; that of Minister for the Environment, Climate Resilience, Disaster Management and Urban Renewal.
He however has not joined the Dominica Labour Party Mr. Skerrit confirmed adding however that “he has satisfied me of his focus in wanting to help the people of Roseau Central, and to put his skills and services at the disposal of the government in the building of the new Dominica.”
Isaac officially takes up his new position as a minister of government on Thursday 12, April 2018.
