The La Plaine Constituency will receive 1.5 million dollars for a roofing project.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced this while addressing a community meeting in Delices last week.
“This constituency will receive $1.5 Million Dollars to go towards helping you to putting roofs back over your heads. And those monies will be transferred to the village councils and contracts will be given to local contractors to help us put our roofs back,” he said.
The prime minister also had some advice for those who will be contracted to do the work.
“My caution to contractors all over Dominica. Build the houses, the roofs good for the people so they can be safe in their homes. Do not take shortcuts; do not use untreated material when you’re being paid for treated material. So let us do it properly because at the end of the day if your neighbor is affected, all of us will be affected,” Mr. Skerrit advised
Meanwhile he revealed that forty million US dollars which forms part of one hundred and fifteen million dollars approved by the World Bank for Dominica will go towards housing.
Mr. Skerrit disclosed that fifty million dollars of the World Bank approved funds will be grants. He said his Cabinet made the decision to put forty million towards constructing safe homes for its citizens.
“Because the intention for the government is to build about 5000 homes in Dominica; to ensure that every one of us irrespective of our situation in life can have a house or a home to call our own and that is the intention of the Government,” he explained.
The government he said has been assisting many Dominicans adding, “Irrespective of who the person is, the person’s political affiliation, the person’s religion. Once you are in need this government is helping our people put a roof back over their homes.”
