The Royal Bank of Canada has closed the doors of its main office on the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard in Roseau this week.
However, when the Environmental Health Department was called for more information on the matter by Dominica Vibes on Tuesday 13 March 2018, they said that the office had received no reason for the bank’s closure.
A notice stuck to the bank’s door, the only branch on the island, simply said, “Thank you for your business with RBC. We regret to announce that our RBC store is closed until further notice for health and safety precautions. We will announce our temporary location as soon as possible.”
The notice also informs that the ATM service will still be available for deposits, withdrawals and credit card payments.
Clients have also been encouraged to use the bank’s alternative service options such as the RBC mobile app and online banking tools.
“We remain committed to meeting your needs and look forward to continuing to serve you today and in the future,” the notice added.
One unhappy RBC customer said that she was given no prior notice by the bank of its decision to close.
She said while the ATM’s service is still available, since there are still internet and power issues, online banking may be difficult for a number of customers.
RBC did sustain some damage due to the passage of Hurricane Maria but the bank has not made public the exact extent of the damage.
Local bank representatives also informed Dominica Vibes that they were unable to comment to the media on the matter as the Trinidad and Canada offices have the sole responsibility to do so.
