At the invitation of the President of the Antilles Episcopal Conference His Lordship Gabriel Malzaire, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit will be the featured speaker at their biennial conference scheduled to take place in Paramaribo, Suriname, from June 11 to 15, 2018.
Bishop Malzaire, who is also the Bishop of the Diocese of Roseau revealed this during his presentation at the National Rebuilding and Economic Partnership Consultation where he said Prime Minister Skerrit was invited to be the featured speaker in light of his concept of working towards making Dominica the world’s first climate resilient country.
“We’re hopeful that from the outset that discussion which will ensue on the regional level will provide greater leverage for the fermentation of the idea,” he explained.
Bishop Malzaire commended government for following through with a climate resilient development strategy for Dominica adding, “I firmly believe that if we are able to persevere to the end with the seminal idea, we would have to give some credit to Maria for the evolution of such a brilliant concept.”
The world the Bishop said is catching up to what Dominica has embarked on and therefore as a country he hopes this venture will be seen as two fold.
“One to develop the right consciousness towards God’s gift of the world to us, called to perfect God’s handiwork by our collective responsibility. Secondly to work diligently and conscientiously to respond to the present climatic conditions that will be as much as possible protective to human life,” he explained.
