Theodora Anthony-Williams, Crop Development Officer at the Dominica Export Import Agency (DEXIA) has made a call to farmers to have a closer working relationship with DEXIA and the Ministry of Agriculture.
In an interview with Dominica Vibes on Monday 4 December 2017, she said the agency is exploring different opportunities geared at empowering local farmers and stakeholders.
“We want to have other stakeholders on board to encourage our farmers and also to look at other added valued products besides chocolate that can be produce from cocoa because we in Dominica we are one of the fine cocoa producers and this speaks volume for us,” she explained.
All efforts and resources must be put together, Anthony-Williams continued, to ensure that Dominica remains in such a category where its raw material is viewed with a high regard.
Young persons were also encouraged to get involved in agriculture.
“We would really want to encourage the young people to get involved in agriculture and consider cocoa as a very lucrative crop and a crop that can generate income and they can sustain their family and livelihoods,” she urged.
