Almost one hundred percent of communities around the island have been accessed by relief distribution following the ravages of Hurricane Maria two weeks ago.
This was announced by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Urban Renewal, Careen Prevost at the daily press conference at the Financial Center on Wednesday, October 4th, 2017.
“Now, I would like to emphasize that one hundred percent of the communities may not necessarily mean one hundred percent of the population, but, we have reached almost every community in Dominica, in terms of delivery of supplies,” she explained.
Prevost added that focus is now being placed on the delivery of supplies at the community level. She noted that they are aware that in some communities, where supplies have been delivered, every resident may not have received supplies.
She also confirmed that they are working on strengthening the distribution on the community level.
She went on to thank citizens for their patience and all those who have assisted in any way.
“This is a challenging time for us as a country and as a people and we just want to thank all those who have exercised patience in one way another. We will get to you and we will try to get to everyone. We also want to thank the agencies who are filling in the gaps, the churches, service groups and all the individuals who have been distributing supplies to any of our communities,” she further stated.
