The Dominica Community Tourism Association Inc. (DCTAI) has launched a pocket map which mainly depicts tourist attractions, community events, accommodations and tours.
The pocket map was officially launched at the Garraway Hotel in Roseau on Thursday 18 May 2017 during a press conference.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Urban Renewal, Careen Prevost stated that the maps were developed with the assistance of the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA).
She noted that in light of the multiple marketing opportunities that grabs visitors’ attention in the region and worldwide, it is necessary for the destination to provide both visitors, and tourism service providers an easy planning and marketing tool, that can equally entice visitor arrivals and increase visitor expenditure in Dominica.
“We don’t just want the visitors to come…We want them to experience all of what we have to offer and also to spend more,” Prevost stated.
Following consultation with the DCTAI, Prevost said, the DDA created the pocket map brochure to showcase the multiple facets of island life, focused on the community tourism product and service offerings in Dominica under the program.
Prevost further stated that DCTAI identified that the production of a promotional community tourism map would be one of the most practical marketing tools, as there are several communities offering services, as well as events, activities and sites around the island.
She noted that the maps can be used by anyone interested in tourism services in and around the island.
The map includes the top ten community tourism experiences, the top five popular community tourism festivals, a calendar of community activities, community attractions service providers, accommodations, places to eat, tour operators among other tourism related aspects.
Copies of the map were presented to the Ministry of Tourism, Discover Dominica Authority, Sea Breeze Hotel, Pan Lake, North/ North East Tourism Association and H. H V. Whitchurch.
The Dominica Community Tourism Association Inc. (DCTAI) was formed by the Ministry of Tourism in 2010, to serve as an umbrella and national voice for all community tourism associations and groups in Dominica, and also to assist the ministry in implementation of community tourism initiatives across the island.
