Two men detained over cash seizure by police

Two adult males of Mahaut have been detained by police as a result of the seizure of cash in excess of five hundred and fifty thousand EC dollars.

A report issued to the media by Police Public Relations Officer, Pellam Jno Baptiste on Thursday 20 April 2017 indicates that the cash was discovered during an anti-drug operation led by the Drug Squad Unit of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force on Wednesday 19 April 2017.

Jno Baptiste reported that during the anti-drug operation “on the west coast, cash totaling in excess of five hundred and fifty thousand Eastern Caribbean dollars was discovered and seized at Belfast”.

“The monies seized are made up as follows; thirty-six thousand, nine hundred and forty dollars United States currency and one hundred and sixty-seven thousand, two hundred and eighty-five dollars European currency. Converted to Eastern Caribbean currency a total of five hundred and sixty-nine thousand, one hundred and seventy dollars and sixty cents” he stated.

As a result of the discovery, he stated, “two adult males from the community of Mahaut are presently in police custody in relation to that seizure” as police investigations continue.
