Robin wins gold in international martial arts tournament

Shihan Shannah Robin has won a gold medal in an international martial arts tournament.

Robin competed in the annual Tiger Balm International tournament in Canada 18-19 March 2017in the 35 and above Point Sparring Division.

Tiger Balm International is a two Day martial arts tournament featuring: Hard & Soft Forms along with eleven sparring categories including point fighting, continuous sparring, padded weapons sparring, Mixed Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Style Grappling, & Modified Pankration
“After many different opponents I was awarded the gold medal, winning out that division and the championship of that division,” Robin told Dominica Vibes on Sunday 20 March 2017.

Robin, who is also the proprietor of Universal Martial Arts Academy in Goodwill, said it was “a very victorious moment” and he was “very excited to have another fight, another gold medal under my belt”.

“I will continue to do my best to represent my people, to represent Dominica, until we are strong enough to have a nice team follow me around the world,” Robin added.

He is hopeful that Dominica will soon compete in international sporting games and therefore plans to meet with the relevant authorities to discuss this.

“As you know the 2020 Olympics is coming up so we need to start working on that so I will have to have a few meetings with the different authorities; government, Minister for Tourism and see how we could work to build Dominica, to make Dominica bigger and stronger,” Robin said.
