Bataca solar project progressing smoothly

The construction of a solar plant in Bataca, worth four hundred thousand U.S dollars, is progressing smoothly, Kalinago Minister, Cassius Darroux has reported.

Speaking with Dominica Vibes on Thursday 22 October 2015, Minister Darroux said the project is set to be completed before the end of the year and will benefit one hundred and forty five homes in the Kalinago Territory.

“Progress is going on satisfactory with regards to excavation works for us to start a $400,000.00 U.S dollars solar project that’s in Bataca”.

“We were hoping that the project would have been completed by the end of this month but because of Tropical Storm Erika the project will be completed by the middle of next month.

Minister Darroux noted that there are several people in the Kalinago Territory who will benefit from this initiative by having single panels on their homes as well as those without electricity supply will benefit.

Darroux informed that the project is funded by the Caribbean Community for climate change Centre (Five C’s) and will provide employment for several residents of the Territory.

“Fifteen young persons will receive training from this project. Five certified electricians from the Kalinago Territory will be working with the engineer for the installation. After the engineer leaves we will still have people on the ground who will man the project in terms of maintenance,” he said.

Mr Darroux said that he is excited and very happy for the project as it will better the lives of the people in the Kalinago Territory and will also reduce the cost of electricity for them.
