The Fisheries Division of the Ministry of Blue and Green Economy, Agriculture and National Food Security joins to rest of the international community today June 8th to observe and celebrate the role of oceans in our everyday life and seeks to inspire actions globally to help protect the oceans and the sustainable use of marine resources This year’s theme is INNOVATION FOR A SUSTAINABLE OCEAN.
Around the world countries and islands in close proximity to the ocean and whose populations rely heavily on the its resources whether through commerce and trade, tourism, food and research and development are engaged in various call to actions through lectures and panel discussions, arts, clean up campaigns and social media platforms. Globally including Dominica, 175 activities have been planned, along with 100 pledges for sustainable use of the oceans by groups and organizations and 207 beach and underwater activities.
In Dominica as we adhere to the Ministry of Health and Wellness and New Investment’s protocols we will engage in social media campaign, hashtag sustainable oceans, a panel discussion and quiz on DBS RADIO at 11am today and the circulation of a short video highlighting the work of a local female fisher and diver. The Ministry of the Blue and Green Economy Agriculture and National food Security also wants to encourage parents to direct the young children who are home and doing studies online to the UNITED NATIONS OCEAN DAY PORTAL by doing a quick search typing in the taskbar World Oceans Day for quick tips, videos and testimonials of the youth how they benefit and take care of this resourceful but fragile natural resource.
