The Dominica Cricket Association has come through for 12 of its players.
An initiative conceptualised by the DCA in partnership with the Senior Men’s National Training Squad got additional support from Fine Foods Inc to supply a select group of players with food hampers.
President of the Cricket Association, Glen Joseph said the idea was to reach out a supportive hand.
He told a small ceremony that, “I move around with the Under-13s, Under-15s, Under 19s [teams] and the Senior Team. Most of the time I would have to contribute to the young cricketers on tour personally soI realize that if this situation hit us so hard our cricketers out there might be having a tough time and that is what triggered the initiative.”
Delaney Alexander, an 18-year-old first year Civil Engineering major is one of the recipients.
Hailing from Tarish Pit, Alexander is an all-rounder on the under 19 team.
He responded, “I’m very grateful for that…In times like these it’s hard. I just want to say thank you.”
Alexander says cricket is his passion and the DCA is “doing a wonderful job” with this initiative.
“I enjoy cricket. I prefer cricket to any other sport and any other thing. When I’m home, I have to take a ball and bat and knock or do something,” he said.
The packages total about $1800.
