The Roosevelt Skerrit government is promising the people of the Kalinago Territory its focused attention this term to improve their standard of life.
At a recent ceremony to deliver homes to 10 families in the district, Hon Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit made the commitment.
He credited his Government for what he says is a marked improvement in the lives of the indigenous people.
“Whatever the Kalinago Territory and the indigenous people are receiving from this government, they deserve and everything else. Before this administration came into office, there were too many governments who took these people for granted, disrespected them and treated them as second class citizens.”
“I have always hoped to have the Kalinago people as part of mainstream society,” Hon Skerrit added, “because Dominica belongs as much to them as it does to us.”
He went further to give them the assurance “that in this term of Government, we will redouble our efforts to improve the lives of the Kalinago Territory.
“You will continue to receive the attention that you have been receiving from this Government,” he said to them.
Hon Constituency Representative, Cozier Frederick agrees that housing in the Territory has been significantly improved by the government with which he is now affiliated.
“Not every government has been able to successfully implement a massive housing project like this one.” he said. “It’s been more than a decade since we have been seeing this housing revolution on this island and I am proud to say that this revolution began here in the Kalinago Territory with funds from the Venezuelan and Chinese governments.”
He referenced the housing projects which he says intensified after Hurricane Maria in 2017.
The Roosevelt Skerrit government has pledged to deliver 500 new homes to the Kalinago Territory.
