In the middle of the festive season but on the heels of the 2019 general elections, His Excellency the President, Charles Savarin encourages peace, love and forgiveness and an end to the political divide.
His Excellency Savarin issued his Christmas message asking that politics be pushed aside to focus on Christmas.
“The unresolved issues of electoral reforms can be dealt with either through our court or through parliament. There is therefore, no longer any need for animosity, quarrels, hateful feelings and conflict. The institutions of the state provides mechanisms for solving differences. Let our energies therefore, be focused on building on our accomplishments to realize our set objectives of making Dominica the first climate resilient country in the world.”
He lamented the elusiveness of peace in today’s world, stating that many prefer conflict and ignore God’s offering of peace.
Citizens are challenged to exercise self-examination, and again urged to put aside political differences.
“Let us examine ourselves sincerely, realizing and admitting our weaknesses, getting rid from our hearts all selfish, anger and hatred and instead adopt values of our Lord and savior; that is love, compassion, forgiveness and humility. Let us all learn to forgive one another, just as the Lord himself has forgiven us all of our sins. This is how we bring peace into our lives, into our homes, in our communities and in our country as only with peace and love in our hearts can we truly celebrate Christmas in its fullness and glory,” His Excellency, President Charles Savarin said.
He continued to advise, “now that the election campaign is over and the people have elected a government of their choice, it is for us to put our differences aside as a people, focusing on what unites us, rather than what divides us.”
