The President’s Charities Foundation is for another year, making annual donations to nonprofit organizations at Christmas time.
Earlier today, the President of Dominica, His Excellency Charles Angelo Savarin accompanied by his wife, Clara Savarin as well as the treasurer of the President’s Charities Foundation made a donation of about $4,000 to the Dominica Infirmary, home to 94 residents.
Food items and toiletries were part of the package.
Speaking with Dominica Vibes, Treasurer of the President’s Charities Foundation, Zandra Phillips explained that the foundation was established for just this purpose.
The total in funds contributed this morning was not disclosed, however she informed Dominica Vibes that,”it should be about $4,000.”
“We have our main fund raising activity, which is a dinner and we have a lot of sponsors. Really the dinner tickets wouldn’t bring enough money to help all these institutions but the sponsors are very good and because of good sponsorship, we are able to help 18 different charities.
“In addition we have a Christmas party for children every year. This year’s party was held last Saturday, where we had 146 children from the south east of the country.”
She further relayed that a total of EC $46,000 was donated to the 18 organizations this year.
The food items were personally donated by His Excellency Charles Savarin to the Dominica Infirmary.
During his presentation, he commended the staff of the Dominica Infirmary on the management of the organization and care taking of the residents.
“I have always found the Infirmary to be very well maintained. It is clean and airy and I find the residents very cheerful. It is wonderful to visit and we do this very willingly,” His Excellency remarked.
